The mini-symposium is organized in honor of the 60th birthday of Prof. T. Punniyamurthy (IIT Guwahati) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to organic synthesis research, particularly in the area of green chemistry. This symposium will focus on advancing chemistry with a special emphasis on Organic Synthesis, addressing current limitations and environmental concerns. It aims to inspire researchers, faculty, and scientists to tackle global challenges in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2030) in chemical sciences. Prof. S. Chandrasekharan
IISc Bangalore

Prof. S. Chandrasekharan’s research focuses on organic synthesis and catalysis, particularly in developing sustainable methodologies for the total synthesis of natural products. His impactful contributions have earned him invitations as a plenary speaker at international conferences and honors such as the Basudeb Banerjee Memorial Medal, CRSI Silver Medal, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, and INSA Golden Jubilee Commemoration Medal. He has also served as an honorary professor at JNCASR, Bangalore, and is a recipient of the prestigious J.C. Bose National Fellowship.

Prof. Ganesh P. Pandey
BHU Varanasi

Prof. G. Pandey's research focuses on the total synthesis of natural products through innovative methodologies in organic synthesis and catalysis. His work includes significant advancements in visible light photo-redox catalysis, enhancing the synthesis of biologically relevant molecules. Prof. Pandey has been honored with numerous awards, including the P. C. Ray Memorial Award, Vigyan Ratna Samman Goyal Science Prize, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, B.M. Birla Science Award, CSIR Young Scientist Award, and CRSI Silver Medal Lecture Award. He has also been elected for the J. C. Bose National Fellow.

Prof. Hiriyakkanavar Ila
JNCASR Bangalore

Prof. H. Ila's research is dedicated to the fields of organic and heterocyclic synthesis, with a focus on intramolecular C–C, C–N, C–S, and N–O bond formations, multicomponent reactions, dipolar cycloadditions of metallo-isocyanides, and domino reactions. She was a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (FASc), and the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi (FNA). Prof. Ila has been honored with the AV Rama Rao Prize, CRSI Silver Medal, and Lifetime Achievement Award (Gold Medal).

Prof. Satyaban Jena
Utkal University

Dr. S. Jena, a distinguished academic and Professor since 1999 at Utkal University. Although he initially entered the Indian Forest Service, he opted for a teaching career, completing his Ph.D. in 1984. Prof. Jena has authored five books. He held a postdoctoral fellowship at Maxwell’s Institute and the University of Leeds, UK, in 1989 and represented India on a higher education delegation to China in 2010. Recognized with the Mahatab Samman in 2002, he has also held key administrative roles at Utkal University and served as President of the Orissa Chemical Society in 2016. After his retirement in 2014, he continued his academic contributions as Director-Academic at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar.

Prof. Javed Iqbal
IIT Kanpur

Prof. J. Iqbal’s research interest spans catalysis in organic synthesis, drug discovery, process chemistry, and the synthesis of natural products. He has represented India as the leader of the Indian Delegation to the IUPAC General Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey; Brisbane, Australia; Beijing, China and Glasgow, UK. Prof. Iqbal was also a fellow of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi (FNA), and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (FASc).

Prof. T. K. Chandrasekhar
IIT Kanpur

Prof. T. K. Chandrasekhar’s research spans several key areas, including the study of porphyrinoids, photodynamic therapy, photosynthetic intermediates, and supramolecular systems. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the CRSI Bronze Medal, CRSI Silver Medal, and the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize. He has been elected as a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc). In recognition of his exceptional contributions to porphyrinoid research, a special issue of the Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines was published in 2021 in his honor.

Prof. A. K. Ganguli
IISER Berhampur

Prof. Ganguli's research interest lies in the design of nanostructured materials for applications in water purification, solar energy conversion and microfluidic devices and also high-temperature superconductivity.  He is a recipient of the National Award of Nano Science and Nanotechnology given by DST, Government of India, CRSI-Silver Medal, MRSI-Medal, the C.N.R. Rao-CRSI National Award, Chemical Excellence Award by Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists and the Bangalore India Nano award given by Karnataka Govt. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London, the Indian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, India and the Asia–Pacific Association of Materials.

Prof. D. Basavaiah
University of Hyderabad

Prof. D. Basavaiah’s pioneering research focuses on the Baylis-Hillman reaction and chiral catalysis. He has held the esteemed position of Honorary Professor at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and is a distinguished Fellow of both the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (FASc), and the Indian National Science Academy (FNA). Further honoring his contributions, he has been awarded the J.C. Bose National Fellowship. Prof. Basavaiah’s accolades include the CRSI Bronze Medal, CRSI Silver Medal, INSA Commemoration Medal, and the BHU Distinguished Alumnus Award.

IIT Bombay

​​Prof. Namboothiri’s research is centered on the development of new synthetic methods, the synthesis of unnatural products, and the creation of novel materials with interesting properties. He also investigates various reaction pathways to enhance the understanding of chemical processes. He has received the Departmental Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT Bombay. Prof. Namboothiri has also been honored with the Jean D'Alembert Senior Fellowship at Paris-Saclay University, France, and the Chirantan Rasayan Sanstha (CRS) Excellence in Research Medal.

Prof. T. Punniyamurthy
IIT Guwahati

Prof. T. Punniyamurthy is a prominent figure in the field of synthetic organic chemistry, recognized for his innovative contributions to the development of new synthetic methodologies. His research has significantly impacted the understanding and application of organic synthesis. Prof. Punniyamurthy has been awarded with CRSI-bronze medal. He has also been honored with OLF award and Margadarshak award by AEC. He has been elected as NAS, RSC and IAS fellow.​

Prof. Akhilesh K. Verma
University of Delhi

Prof. Verma's research focuses on the design and synthesis of new chemical entities in a sustainable manner. His innovative research includes mechanistic investigations of organic reactions, where he employs online mass spectrometry to capture fleeting intermediates, enhancing the understanding of reaction pathways. Additionally, Prof. Verma has developed metal-free and cost-effective methods for the deuteration of N-, O-, and S-heterocycles and carbocycles, contributing significantly to the field of organic chemistry. He has been honored with CRSI-Bronze medal and has also been elected as fellow to FNA, INSA, RSC and BOYSCAST. 

Prof. Vibha Tandon
CSIR-IICB Kolkata

Prof. Vibha Tandon specializes in Chemical Biology, with expertise in Radiation Biology, Cell Signaling, Drug Development, and the mechanisms of drug action through Genomics and Proteomics. Her research includes developing antibiotics targeting the Topoisomerase IA gene in gyrase-resistant bacterial strains. She has received several prestigious honors, including the Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship at Georgia State University, INSA Visiting Fellowship in Germany, and Royal Society Fellowship at Cambridge University. Additionally, she was recognized as a DAAD Fellow under the Indo-German exchange program for her contributions to chemical sciences.

Prof. Akhila K. Sahoo
University of Hyderabad

Prof. Akhila Kumar Sahoo's research focuses on synthetic chemistry, particularly innovative methodologies in transition-metal catalyzed transformations, including the activation of inert C-H bonds and cross-coupling reactions. His work also involves Lewis-acid catalyzed transformations, such as alkyne activation and nitrene insertion, along with current interests in gold-catalyzed cyclization of ynamide scaffolds and the synthesis of high-energy materials rich in nitro, nitrogen, and fluorine functionalities. He has received the UGC-BSR-Mild Career award and the Prof. D. K. Banerjee Memorial lecture award, and has been elected as a FASc, FRSC, and FNASc.

Dr. D. K. Mahapatra
CSIR-IICT Hyderabad

Dr. D. K. Mahapatra specializes in organic chemistry, focusing on the asymmetric total synthesis of complex medicinal natural products. His innovative synthetic pathways have established him as a leader in both organic synthesis and applied research, notably contributing to scalable industrial processes for MRI contrast agents, Misoprostol, Bedaquiline, and Orlistat. Dr. Mahapatra’s achievements are recognized with prestigious awards, including the NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award, CSIR-Technology Award, and several young scientist honors from AVRA, D&O Pharmachem Inc. USA, Rajiv Gandhi, Alkyl-Amines-UDCT Foundation, and INSA.

IIT-ISM Dhanbad

Prof. Parthasarathi's research group is dedicated to advancing several critical areas of chemistry, including catalysis, heterocyclic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology. The group emphasizes the total synthesis of biologically active compounds, prioritizing cost-effective pathways to FDA-approved drugs. They also focus on the synthesis and characterization of drug impurities to enhance pharmaceutical safety and efficacy. His accolades include the prestigious CRSI Bronze Medal and has been awarded with CRSI-Bronze medal and has also been acknowledged in the "TCI-India League of Extraordinary Chemists.,

Prof. Alakesh Bisai
IISER Kolkata

Prof. Bisai specializes in developing innovative methodologies for C–C and C–hetero bond formation and synthesizing complex heterocyclic natural compounds. His work spans synthetic and medicinal chemistry, with notable contributions in chemical biology and the total synthesis of intricate natural products. Recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and Indian Chemical Society (FICS), he has received several prestigious honors, including the CDRI Award for Excellence in Drug Research, a SERB Special Call for 'Reagentless Chemistry,' CRS-Silver Medal, SERB-STAR Award, CRSI-Bronze Medal, and multiple young scientist awards.

BITS Pilani

Prof. Anil Kumar's research is specializing in transition metal-catalyzed C–H activation and also working on developing of new reaction strategies using novel catalysts for organic reactions under environmentally friendly conditions. His innovative work also includes the design and synthesis of task-specific ionic liquids and their application in organic synthesis, which contributes to more sustainable chemical practices. He has been honored with CRSI- Bronze Medal for his excellence. 

Prof. G. Sekar
IIT Madras

Prof. G. Sekar’s research in organic synthesis focuses on environmentally friendly catalysts, including homogeneous catalysts, metal nanocatalysts, and halogen bonding catalysis. His group pioneered an enantiopure model of Galactose Oxidase for synthesizing valuable enantiopure alcohols and developed stable, reusable palladium and platinum semi-heterogeneous nanocatalysts. Recently, they explored halogen bonding interactions as innovative catalysts. He is the recipient of the Senior Scientist Award-2021 by the Academy of Sciences Chennai, CRSI bronze medal-2015, the Institute Research and Development Award (Mid-Career)-2017, JSPS, AvH postdoctoral fellowships, and AvH equipment award. He is a Fellow of FNASc, FRSC, and FASCh.

Prof. Maddali L. N. Rao
IIT Kanpur

Prof. Rao focuses on developing green organometallic reagents and their applications in organic synthesis. His team has pioneered new generation cross-coupling reactions using triarylbismuths as 3-fold coupling reagents, establishing various novel coupling reactions with organobismuth chemistry under palladium-catalyzed conditions that achieve high atom economy. Additionally, his research includes convergent organic synthesis, microwave-mediated synthesis, auto-catalysis, and other metal-catalyzed reactions of contemporary interest. His work aims to advance organometallic chemistry while promoting sustainable practices in organic synthesis.

Prof. Krishna N. Singh
BHU Varanasi

Prof. Singh's research focuses on developing new methodologies, including metal-catalyzed and metal-free coupling reactions, C-H activation, cross-dehydrogenative coupling, decarboxylative coupling, photo-redox catalysis, and electro-organic synthesis. His innovative approaches have significantly advanced these techniques in organic chemistry. He has been elected as FINSA and FNASc and has received the CRSI Silver and Bronze Medals, along with the ISCB Award for Excellence in Chemical Sciences and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research.
